Since Monday spring has arrived! 🌸🌷🌼
And spring is also the season for repotting 😊 Even if it is not totally forbidden to repot a tropical plant in autumn or winter, it is still recommended to repot your plants after the start of their vegetative period, i.e. from the beginning of spring until in the month of September.
Why is it important to repot your plants?
Some may have already experienced it, a plant can quite live for several years in the same pot, only it does not make its life easier, nor yours. Indeed in the ground, the plants are not limited, they can extend their roots as they please to find water or minerals. Tropical plants live in pots in our interiors, they obviously can't do it, so we have to help them! Otherwise the roots will slow down their expansion and the plant will slow down its growth, the roots will gradually invade the whole pot, and the soil will no longer be able to fulfill its mission which is that of a water reservoir, it will therefore be necessary to water more often and the plant will be more fragile.
When can I repot?
If you want to know if it's time to repot, it's very simple! You can look under the pot to see if any roots are sticking out or you can examine the roots while unpotting the plant and if they form a big clump, it's time :)
Our little tips
Most potting soils already contain fertilizer, so it is better to avoid adding fertilizer within 3 months of repotting 🌿 however if your potting soil does not already contain compost, you can add organic amendments such as the compost from Clotaire , that of Green Phoenix if you need larger quantities or with the granules of the Beautiful dung ! Just add a handful and mix it into the new potting soil.
Take advantage of repotting to check the condition of the roots
